My first big Cal Poly Esports Event
Starting off with a banger we've got the first event I created, the Cal Poly Cultural Cup. From an idea about how to collaborate with other clubs, to an event that brought together hundreds of students, the Cultural Cup is one of the tournaments I'm most proud of. It was my introduction to amazing friends. It was my introduction into the behind the scenes of esports. It was my introduction to how my hobby can level up from spectating to doing.
We had graphics concocted 30 minutes before they went live on social media and Twitch, Discord calls with no webcams, and overlays with out-of-date information. It wasn't pretty, but it sparked that passion for me to continue creating and iterating on what I did in Cal Poly Esports.
You can hear how terrible my mic is, how when I yell it peaks and the sound cuts out. That's the beauty of esports to me, those moments where you don't know better. Where your production is terrible and people watch anyway. It's really something special.
